Galley Cat recently reported that “Master’s Degrees often HURT an application”:

 ”Getting an MFA is creative writing or English is an impressive accomplishment, but it’s not always going to be an asset in the real world job hunt. I admit my mind twirls on a slightly skewed rotation, but the article made me remember a student from an early version of Ghostwriter Certification Training. An attorney, she applied for a position writing opinions for the court–the exact name of which is confidential, of course–and captured it over 179 other people because, she was told, she had taken ghostwriter training.

She was the first but certainly not the last to discover that being a Certified Ghostwriter can actually carry more weight in some situations than having a Master’s degree or even a Ph.D.  For one thing, we are an elite group, because I can only train a handful of people at a time. Plus, we bring to any writing position a unique knowledge, skill set, and perspective–and that can be very attractive to a potential employer.

I’ve had more than one graduate hang their GCT Certificate of Completion next to their post-grad degree(s). As one person said, “I know what I had to do to earn it!”

Just sayin’ …
