Hi, I’m Claudia Suzanne
Here on the Internet, in the land of blatant self-promotion, we’re all called upon to blow our own horns. As Dragnet’s Sgt. Friday would say, I’ll try to stick to the just the facts.
I’m a ghostwriting expert and one of Southern California’s leading book-industry authorities. I’ve ghosted or edited over 130 titles in myriad nonfiction topics, fiction genres, legal subjects, and academic fields.
I’ve learned a tremendous amount along the way; every manuscript is an education in life, in people, in the particular topic. I love working with experts, with entrepreneurs, with people who have lived “large” or inspirational lives, with storytellers and innovators and folks who have their own take on these most interesting times in which we live.
The most fascinating, energizing profession I’ve ever encountered, ghostwriting helps me fulfill my two life missions: to make literary dreams come true and to launch new careers.
I’m also an author, of course. Of the four books written four books under my own name, This Business of Books (4th Edition) is considered a “standard of the industry” by college professors and librarians across the English and Chinese-speaking world. How it got to China, Indonesia, and the Ukraine is still a mystery, but I am forever grateful that it did. The in-progress 5th Edition explores the writing process, ebooks, and 21st Century marketing in much greater depth than any of the previous releases.
Secrets of a Ghostwriter is the textbook I put together to teach other writers, editors, and journalists how to make a living doing what I do. It’s taken close to a decade to codify the work, although I used whatever was the current version every semester in my unique class, Ghostwriter Certification Training, renamed Ghostwriting Certificate program when California State University, Long Beach, asked me to teach it through their College of Continuing and Professional Education. My program director expects it to eventually become a California Accredited Program. I’m thrilled and humbled to say the least.
I wrote Buh Bye, M.S. about eight or nine months after realizing that my 42-year battle with multiple sclerosis had ended in the best possible way: I won, the maggot lost. I don’t think the single word has yet been coined to express my complete and utter gratitude and beyond-description joy at ridding my body and life of this miserable intruder, so, of course, I wrote about 30,000 words instead.
Hired Bodies, my sole novel, was published by Iridescent Orange Press in 2013. While it may be a few steps past David Sedaris in quirkiness, it’s still a fast, easy read that people either love or love to hate.
Last few facts, for the record: I’ve guest lectured at universities, spoken to professional groups and writer organizations, sat on panels and presented keynote speeches at conferences, presided over and launched writers organizations, and currently chair the Ghostwriters Unite! executive committee.
If you’re thinking of writing a book, whether you just have an idea or are flummoxed with a finished draft, I’d love to help you. It’s what I do.
“Claudia knows more about publishing than most people ever will. She is the consummate ghostwriter/teacher, understanding what authors need in order to successfully complete their book dream, and she has a finely honed talent for communicating what she knows to her students and clients. One of the most savvy business people I have known. Trustworthy and supportive. Awesome dry sense of humor and spontaneous wit. I recommend her without qualification.” M.K.
